Tereré - the perfect refreshment for summer

There is hardly anything better than a cool drink on a hot summer day. Tereré offers you a unique refreshment - either plain or enriched with fruits or juice. Especially in the warm months of the year, Tereré is a popular and traditional drink in many regions of South America, which is often enjoyed throughout the day instead of the classic hot mate tea. Just the right thing for a hot summer day! In Paraguay, Tereré is even the national beverage and is traditionally drunk from a guampa, a hollowed-out cow horn. Nowadays, guampas are also available in other materials, such as glass or metal. For us, however, a normal tall drinking glass will do.

If you have developed an appetite for this tasty refreshment, you can find a few recipe ideas for your Tereré here. Have fun preparing it and enjoy!

Tereré with Natural Green Wild Berries Yerba MatePreparation:

First, pour the cold water into a thermos or jug. If the recipe includes other ingredients such as juice, sugar, herbs or fruit, you can also mix them directly into the jug. Then add the Natural Green Mate tea of your choice into a glass, cover the opening of the glass with the palm of your hand, hold it at a slight angle and then shake it briefly. This will settle the dust and the bombilla will no longer clog so easily. Before you straighten the glass again, place the bombilla and then a few ice cubes carefully into the side of the glass where there is no Mate tea. Pour a little of the prepared mixture into the glass and let it stand for about 20 seconds so that the air is released from the tea. Then you can fill the rest of the glass with the prepared mixture. If you leave the tea to steep for a few minutes, the Mate flavour will develop more strongly. Now you can enjoy the first infusion of your Tereré!

4. Tereré for lazy people This preparation is quick and easy. First, pour the mate tea into your favourite glass, cover the opening, shake it briefly and then put the bombilla into the glass. Then you just mix the cold water with the orange juice either in a thermos or a jug or pour it directly over the Mate tea - and your Tereré is ready!
